I updated the site with 1 months worth of stuff.
It's almost time for Europe. I can't believe that it is already August (6 months on the road!)
Check out these other articles that didn't make the front page 2 article limit.
1. Mount St. Helens (Ape hollow lava tunnel)
2. Grand Coulee Dam (Laser show)
3. Glacier (Moose, Bear, and Elk oh my)
4. Cody (World Famous Cody Rodeo)
7-30 Spent the day driving around Hells Canyon. Freezeout point road was closed so I had to drop down into the canyon from Hat Point. I stayed at a campsite a couple of miles from Hat point and had a lovely view of the canyon at dark.
7-31 Hat Point down Sluice creek to South of Sandy creek. The bottom of Sluice creek was full blackberries and bear scat. At the bottom of Sluice there were two airplanes on an unmarked runway. I saw their planes dipping down into the canyon and I bet the descent and landing on the grass was incredible.
8-1 Snake river trail. I followed to SRT to just Pittsburg landing. I saw lots of deer, elk, and rattlesnake.
8-2 Snake river trail again. I followed the SRT along the banks and saw a family of goats. The goats made some seriously funny faces. I also saw many of the historic ranches along the river and talked with a few of the boaters who were camped out on the river.
8-3 Bank of the Snake to North of Weisnor Place. Saw a female black bear on the trail munching on some kind of tree. She had three cubs with her and I spooked her into the brush and the cubs up into the tree. She didn't really have anywhere to run because we were canyon locked at the top of the temperance creek draw. The situtation could have turned out much worse with a maced bear; however I got some good shots of the mother and a few of the cubs. The baby bears were incredibly cute. This day was a serious bitch. I got blocked out of two attempts to get back out of the canyon because of lack of trails.
8-4 North of Weisnor place to Hat Point. The hike out was not as bad as i thought it would be. I started from around 3000ft so I only had 4000ft to climb (about the same as the climb out of the grand canyon. I didn't see much wildlife but the wildflowers were pleasant above 6000ft.
